Card Centering Calculator

The MakeACard Card Centering Calculator turns four border measurements into left/right and top/bottom ratios, then maps the worse axis to common PSA centering bands (55/45, 60/40, 65/35, 70/30). It is centering only, not an official grade.

Measure the four borders of a card in any unit (mm is easiest). The calculator turns those numbers into left/right and top/bottom ratios, then maps the worse axis to common PSA centering bands. This is centering only. It is not an official grade.

PSA 10 centering

About 55/45 or better on the front. Worst axis is 50.0 / 50.0.

PSA 10 front centering is commonly cited as 55/45 or better. Back centering is looser. Corners, edges, and surface still decide the real slab. Use this to decide whether a card is worth a submission fee.

What Makes This Tool Special

Four-border input

Enter left, right, top, and bottom in millimeters, millimeters on a ruler photo, or any unit. The ratio is unitless, so consistency matters more than the unit.

Left/right and top/bottom

You get both axes. Graders look at the worse one. A 50/50 left-right with a 70/30 top-bottom is still a 70/30 card.

PSA-style bands

Common front-centering cites: 55/45 for PSA 10, 60/40 for 9, 65/35 for 8, 70/30 for 7. The tool maps your worse axis to that scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

What measurements do I need?
The four border widths: left, right, top, and bottom. Use the same unit for all four. Millimeters on a ruler next to the card is enough. Calipers are better if you have them.
Is this an official PSA grade?
No. PSA, BGS, and CGC also score corners, edges, and surface. This tool only estimates centering from the ratios you type. A 55/45 card can still get a 7 if the corners are dinged.
What is a good centering ratio?
For a PSA 10 front, collectors usually want 55/45 or better on both axes. 60/40 is the common PSA 9 band. Back centering is graded looser than the front.
Does this work for Pokemon, MTG, and sports cards?
Yes. Standard TCG and sports cards share the 2.5 x 3.5 inch size. The ratio math is the same. Oversized or Japanese-size cards still use the same left/right and top/bottom method.
Why would I make a custom card after this?
Most people who search centering already own a card they care about. MakeACard creates a 750 x 1050 PNG from a photo, with one free successful generation per linked identity per Asia/Kolkata day.
