A classroom set works when every kid is the subject of their own card.
That is also the growth model for MakeACard: each linked identity gets one free successful card per Asia/Kolkata day. A teacher with 24 students can invite 24 creators instead of hitting one person's daily limit.
Why cards work in a room of kids
Cards are small, named, and tradable. A worksheet is none of those things.
Teachers already use them for:
- First-week icebreakers ("find someone whose card is a Water type")
- Reading or homework rewards
- End-of-year gifts
- A display wall that is not another poster
The card has to look like a card. A Canva rectangle with a school photo glued on it does not get traded. A rarity roll does.
The workflow that does not eat your Sunday
- Send a permission note and a photo request. One clear face or full-body shot per student. Window light. No group shots.
- Each student (or parent) opens MakeACard and uploads their own photo. Each linked identity can use its daily free card.
- Download the PNGs.
- Drop them into the Print Layout Tool.
- Print at actual size on cardstock. Cut with a trimmer. Sleeve if you can.
Use the party and print planner to get sheet count and a rough paper cost before you buy cardstock.
A class of 24 at one card each is 4 Letter sheets at 6-up or 3 A4 sheets at 9-up. That is a cheap project.
Photo rules for school
- Faces readable. Hats and masks hide the subject.
- One kid per frame.
- You have permission to use the photo.
- Skip screenshots of yearbook scans if you can get a new phone photo.
If the first card looks generic, the photo was the problem, not the rarity. This photo guide is the brief to send home.
How to use the set once it exists
Icebreaker. Deal the cards. Kids find the person on the card, then trade.
Quiet reward. Finish the reading, pick from the "rare" pile. You can print extras of the teacher's card as the chase.
Writing prompt. Each kid writes the flavor text for their own card, then generates again with that as the seed.
End of year. One sleeved card in an envelope beats another certificate.
What not to do
Do not make the teacher generate 24 cards on one device if the free limit is one. Send the link. Let each household make one.
Do not print on copy paper. The object has to survive a backpack.
